Vravrona Marathon & Sounion tour itinerary
Our tour begins by taking the road that the Marathon runners use when the Marathon event takes place. The distance from Athens to Marathon is 42km (approx. 26 miles.) When we reach Marathon we will see the starting point of the Marathon event. Then we travel a couple of KM from there through the farmland to reach one of the most beautiful museums in Attica the museum of Marathon. After seeing the museum we will go to Tymbos. The monument at Marathon was erected in honor of the Athenian soldiers who died during the great victory against a far larger Persian army in 490 B.C. The tomb contains the remains of 192 Athenians. We continue our tour by going through the farmland where we will see many fig and pistachio trees. After a while we will reach the ancient site of Vravrona. This site has one of the most beautiful museums in ceramics and pottery. Here you will laso see the temple of Artemis. After seeing Vravrona we head towards cape Sounion. At cape Sounion the ruins of the Temple of Poseidon, which was built in 444 BC lie on a huge rock. The view from up there is spectacular. Here you will be able to enjoy the most beautiful sunset. There is a lovely taverna nearby where you can enjoy lunch or dinner over-looking the blue waters of the Saronic Gulf.
